I appreciate the thoughtful analysis you bring to these issues.

I don’t think the San Francisco teachers are the only ones who have backfilled their pensions to the point of absurdity. San Francisco suffers from a similar problem and yet not one mayor has had the moral courage to stop hiring or layoff employees despite the fact that San Francisco has an excessive workforce for its population. Unions always believe that the solution is just more taxes and more money. But at some point, you have to acknowledge that your bank account is empty. I just don’t know when our politicians are going to have the moral courage to do that. San Francisco is now one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in.
